I am visiting Fort Wayne for a week and I got a craving last night for a burger so I turned to yelp for the best burger place around and decided on Powers because they aren't a big chain and usually the hole in the wall places have the best food and let me tell you they did not disappoint! Seriously the best burgers I have ever eaten! Perfect size and the taste is like nothing I've ever had in a burger! The only thing I would change is how many I purchased because I only bought two and I should have doubled that! But I will be back in there before I leave town and I'm even gonna take some back to my husband and just hope they last the 7 hour trip! Simply AMAZING!

This restaurant opened in 1940 as a 24-hour quik serve, and still does not offer french fries. The restaurant is no longer open 24-hours but does stay open late for the the local baseball team, the TinCaps' home games. This is just an awesome place that evokes lots of memories who grew up in the area. They still offer the greasy little slider-type burgers about 1.5 to 2 ounces of hamburger, fried amongst some of the best Vidalia onions in theUnited States and not-so-gingerly placed on a potato bread bun. Your choice of with or without American cheese, extra cheese, and even extra onions. Condiments are offered by being available around the restaurant such as, ketchup, mustard, Tobasco sauce, and/or Sriracha hot chili sauce. Also availabe were sodas from the Coca Cola Product line, and displayed "in case" pies and cake(s). The seating is limited to only one booth, and about a dozen stools along side a counter to eat at. Both front window and service side. On one of my visits here I learned my father and mother grew up going here. I visit it everytime I am in town and have brought my wife and children there, as well. So, for this small, hometown, family run business seems to be doing pretty well keeping three generations of this family as happy customers. And yes, I have had White Castles and thought Power's were better.

The best mini burgers in the nation! This restaurant beats White Castle any day! With 75¢ burgers, yet they are small, you cannot go wrong. When I go, I usually eat about 3-5 burgers. One time, I brought these burgers into work and my boss ate 10 of them! This gets my vote as the best restaurant in Fort Wayne. +1 Recommendation

Best burgers I have ever had. If I could go there all the time I would.

There is no greater bliss than a stack of Powers Hamburgers, with those wonderfully fried onions. Although a close second would be two burgers and a bolw of their chili!

This is one Diner that Guy Fiori needs to visit. I have been going there since the early 50's and it has not changed. The best hamburger in Fort Wayne. The chili is also very good.

If you like overpriced slimy, gross sliders, then this is your place. Growing up, I've heard so much about Powers. Finally went with some friends after a tincaps game. Completely showed how low class Fort Wayne truly is. Terrible sliders, more onion then meat, and overcharge you for everything. Sliders? more expensive then White Castle, Fires? worse than Steak and Shake, drinks? Smaller than a gas station and three times as expensive. Dirty, small, low class. Bottom line. Anything Powers does, White Castle does better. Never going there again. And Fort Wayne needs some real class in their glorified "local eateries"

Great place for a quick lunch. Real good sliders that are way better than anything I have ever had from one of the "corporate" type places that specialize in these sandwiches. Filling, cheap, and fast. Lots of local flavor in here too, folks from all walks of life wander in to grab a few mini-burgers and be on their way. Worth a stop.

Small, classic diner. Don't expect fancy interior! The sliders are great if you love onions!

Still my favorite. Always fresh Didier's meat, not frozen. Great chili. Sorry White Castle & Crystal.

My family & I come here every time we make it to the Fort to visit family. My Parents, Aunts & Uncle tell stories of coming here when they were younger & still till this day how they love coming back. They use to pay $0.25/ burger and now they are approx. $1.50. I love this place, as it feels like a historic landmark with lots of good memories. But of course the important part is how great the food taste. We stick to the cheeseburgers with onions. Also when they aren't slammed they can fit in a good grilled cheese on sliced bread - which is one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've had. I look forward to eating here again in a few years, when I make it back to the Fort :)

I think if you live in Ft. Wayne, this is a local spot that people love. That's what I gathered from my visit anyway. Unfortunately, I am not from Ft. Wayne and I went in to full fledged food regret immediately after consuming my burgers (sliders). I will describe it as: Burger One, "this is pretty good!", Burger two, "this is not as good as the last one", Burger three, "I hate myself". My advice is to pass on this one.

You cannot go to DTFW and not go to Powers. This place rocks! The sliders are to die for. If you like onions. You will be in heaven. Their chili is also really good too. Powers is a unique slice of the Fort Wayne culture and you can't beat it!

This is the best slider shop IN THE WORLD! I've been coming here since a kid and the food and service has always been amazing. I live in Indianapolis, but make this a must stop every time I come to town. Yes, the smell of onions may linger on your jacket, but the sliders make up for it! Delicious food for a low price. If you're looking for some quick, old-fashioned hamburgers come to powers and eat a slider off the 50+ year-old seasoned grill. YUM! They also have pie, Malts, and breakfast. I promise you that you will love it!

Not sure why it's loved other than local loyalty. Tiny place so there's little room to sit and the burgers and everything served is covered in grease that looks, and tastes, as old as the building. And they don't even take credit/debit cards.

Stopped by the location based on reading other Yelp reviews and thought it was okay. Unfortunately, I guess I was expecting a little better. My wife on the other hand thought it was great. As soon as we got out if the car we were welcomed by the overwhelming aroma of onion. If it's not your thing, you ought to consider visiting a different place because the aroma increases as you enter the building. As others have mentioned, the burgers are somewhat similar to White Castle... However, I would argue that White Castle is a bit better. The location is a bit on the small side and set up like a little diner. When there I thought it odd to see a customer seasoning his own burgers with salt, but after taking my first couple bites into my own burger I understood a bit more why. The meat seemed to be under seasoned or completely left unseasoned and was lacking in flavor. The onions on the burger however were extremely flavorful. Despite this, I would have liked to have my onions chopped into smaller bits rather than left has huge dangling slices on the burger. The size of the burger is slightly bigger than that of White Castle, so you may wish to order two to three pending in your hunger level. The price was truly decent and very inexpensive. If your looking for a burger fix with some delicious onions on top, take some time to pay a visit.

Love this place and if you like onions you will too!! You go in and come out smelling like them! I love this place because it has been down town forever it's family owned they are great people. They serve slides and other homemade stuff! I love watching them make the burgers they make them sooo fast !! They are messy so get napkins but I love them!!!

  • Dayla R.

Love eating at small places, that are well known by the locals and... cheap! This is how you know the food's going to be great cause they don't have ambiance or charm going for them. And thank you Ms. Waitress for asking me how much I like onions... cause ya'll pile 'em on. So thanks for the heads up.

I haven't been to Powers in awhile, but I'm sure it hasn't changed much or lost it's touch! Powers is the king of sliders. You can put it up to White Castle or any other slider burger out there across America and Powers will still be standing! Man, you start tearing into them and you just want to order 10 more, then when you're done order 10 to go! It's a tiny small diner with a few seats and you get that I'm in the 1950's. But I wouldn't know that, I was born in 79! But the setting is old school, is what I"m trying to say! When I turned 21, we used to stop by there late night after many alcoholic beverages and nothing could be better than a pile of burgers from there. The grilled onions just set off these burgers and small slice of cheese, maybe throw some K&M on there. Man o man. Plus I just have to say, these burgers are also amazing in a sober state too! Just be ready to smell like Powers the rest of the day if you step into the shop! But there really isn't anything wrong with that!!!

Much better service than Culver's on West Jefferson. The layout of powers is more conducive to a hangout than it is over there, however. I really like the creative burgers and chilly options at Powers. My burger had grilled onions and cheese on it. I mean come on. And nobody can tell me that their shakes aren't the bomb. Because they are. Where else can you get a shake with your meal? Then be too full to throw in a piece of pie or a cake? Genius. I left happy as a clam and full as a bull. ____________ | POWERS | | __ | | | | | O O O O O O O O O | | | | / | \ / | \ / | \ / | \ / | \ / | \ / | \ / | \ / | \ | | | | / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ |_____ |__|___ | | | DON'T BE THIS GUY! Expect to be hung up on if they are too busy to take phone-in orders, they are grumpy when they do take your order, service is slow, the place reeks of onions, it is hot and stuffy in there making everyone sweat (including the {shudder} grill worker), there are no fries, there are not enough seats inside, there are no seats outside, the burgers are usually overloaded into small paper sacks just begging to break, and at about $1 per burger, how good could they be? Best slider in the world...not kidding! (and the chocolate malts are pretty darn good too.)

I love power's... If your in the area try them out. Great burgers (sliders only) and I love their breakfast garbage plate! Only bad thing is that they don't accept credit or debit cards.... Not to catch up to technology

  • Sean J.

Tasty little burgers! And the price is right! Cash only! I'm lucky I had some cash on me. Yeah, the area is sketchy for sure... And the place is a bit dingy... But you come for the sliders! Tasty! Tasty! Tasty! Get some!!!

This tiny hamburger shop was full of surprises. My first impression was that this place is a dive. I was right, it's totally a dive in a questionable neighborhood......BUT this place has AMAZING burgers. They make sliders, which I was not aware of, that are in the same style as White Castle. They have 1 tiny flat top grill and one guy cooking. The cook fills the grill with balls of hamburger and then smothers them all with onions. He then proceeds to flatten them burgers out by smashing the onions in to them with a spatula. The result is a homemade white castle burger that far exceeds the chain restaurant in taste and quality. I can verify this as I had both in the same day. My biggest regret is not buying more because I didn't know they were sliders. The only negative I have besides the neighborhood is the fact that it's cash only with no ATM nearby. I give Powers a 4 on the Doubleday scale only because They don't accept credit or debit cards.

Wonderful, local flavor. Tasty little burgers with onions. The owner really caters to the patrons. This is my kids favorite diner in Fort Wayne. You just got to stop by for a power burger !!

Oh Powers, how I miss your meaty and oniony goodness! Many a burger have I tasted over the years, and I believe Powers is definitely in my top 3 (I can't pick just one favorite). Maybe Powers isn't the nicest, biggest place on the planet. It's very small on inside, with just a few places to park yourself to eat. They don't offer french fries (unless something has changed since my last visit), and they offer a very small menu. But they definitely make their burgers well, with plenty of grilled onions to go on top of these tasty things. They are also very reasonably priced; I have often walked out of there very full for less than $5. While I haven't dined in a lot, I never had a problem with service there when I have. The biggest problem I've had there is that no matter how long I've been in there, I always leave smelling like meat and onions the whole day. But it's totally worth it!

Did a little road trip last Saturday to Fortwayne(the wife wanted to restock on her Lush supplies). This hole in the wall, more like a tiny shack in the corner of a huge parking lot, happen to showed up in the list of must eat in Fortwayne, so we just had to try. I do like those tiny Whitecastle sliders, but Powers is like the old school, no-holds-barred, no-reservation version of sliders. Just juicy, greasy, oniony(yummy grilled onions), and tasty. Well after we chowed down 2 double cheese sliders each around 3pm, we decided to cancel our josephdecuis 6pm reservation coz we were stuffed. Definitely a must try if you like burgers/sliders and find yourself in the Fortwayne area.

Americana Perfection. No nonsense, no frills. Just great hand-made old school sliders. Love the Chilli-Even the Soda has a "good throw" A national culinary treasure, for sure. Like a time machine...

If you're looking for a good 'ol fashioned mom and pop shop this is it! Great service, fresh ingredients, fun to watch all the action! The cook, waiter, cashier, (two people doing it all) joked with all the customers, called the regulars by name, and was able to keep up with orders of 20+ burgers at a time! My son, very, very, very picky, said they were the best burgers in the world! Loved it!

OK, this place is a dump. A loveable dump at that. I lived in Ft Wayne briefly almost 20 years ago. This place hasn't changed one bit since. It's not there for glamor, what it is there for is the ABSOLUTE BEST SLIDERS with onion in the entire country. Real carmelized onion, on a real burger and bun. Put some Sriracha or ketchup on it and you have heaven in a sandwich. Then look at your bill and you'll laugh. CHEAP too. One word of warning... whatever you wear into the joint will smell like onions for hours afterwards. Kind of like when you're in a movie with a beautiful woman wearing perfume and you smell it later after you've dropped her off. A food romance..... Get a sack of them!!!

Not much. Cheap burgers, No frills, Major greasy spoon. Been there done that on this place.

  • dawn v.

They are everything they claim to be and nothing more. Expect sliders that taste the way White Castle claims they do. And if you don't like onions, say something because the onions are the draw here. No fries available, chips only. This is a burger place and you've come for the burger, so focus on that. While White Castle are pre- formed, these are handmade and might crumple up a bit so press down to keep those onions and meat together. Located behind the ball field.

Delicious burgers in a pretty sketchy area. Comparing this to white castle is an insult. Powers is far superior--the onions beautifully caramalized, the chopped burger juicy and the bun perfect. I could eat a dozen if I wanted to, even though I shouldn't.

HANDS DOWN the best burger I've ever HAD! I live 2,000 miles away and have traveled a hell of a lot, and Powers is AMAZING. I haven't had a Powers Burger since I was 16 and I've been a vegetarian for several years now, but if I were to ever convert back this would be in my top 3 things to eat! Make sure you come here if you are passing through, you will not be disappointed.

Nice little burgers but could barely taste any cheese on it. Overall I'd go back but this time I'd eat it there instead of taking to go. The burgers were smothered with grilled onions grilled hard - just the way I like them but lacked taste. Not only were the burgers tiny but so was the seating area. Service was fine. I noticed other Yelp reviewers didn't like the service but what can you expect??? Sure those guys in there have a little attitude and look pissed but I'd be too if I were stuck in there for 8hrs a day flippin burgers and answering dumb questions. I could see this being a late night place I would migrate after getting the munchies!!!

Let me start by saying my favorite t-shirt is my "Powers Hamburgers, Family Owned and Operated" shirt. I grew-up in Ft. Wayne, but left in my early 20's. My parents are still there so every few years I drop-in for some burgers and chili. Although, my mom has banned me from wearing the clothes I wore in Power's in the house (not sure what that's all about!!). Order fries if you're a rookie. When I describe Power's I like to say "imagine a White Castle hamburger with garden fresh ingredients, and a tasty burger". Although, I would never compare them to White Castle (b/c there isn't any parallels between WC and Powers, other than they are small burgers). I also refuse to call them "sliders". I hate that term b/c in my mind I think: slides in, slides out. Not how I like to associate quality food. I love everything about Power's. My folks take the grand-kids to Coney Island, and not Power's. I'm sad the kids in my family will have to wait until their 21st birthdays to find Power's at its most useful: after the bars. I'll be back for my 20 year HS reunion in Oct., and I will be back for sure!! Please make sure to have some size XL tshirts in stock, b/c I need a replacement!

Having lived in Fort Wayne for about 10 years, it was about time I made it to this long talked about FW tradition. So I did. The food was good. I got two doubles with everything and they were great. Wish they offered fries or onion rings to accompany the mini-burgers but when you get in, you'll understand why the menu is tight. Not a ton of space on the interior, and no outside seating is disappointing. Best bet is to get them to-go and find a nice spot in the city to enjoy them. Parkview Field is within two blocks! I might also mention that the person running orders/cash register was extremely vulgar. He was cursing while kids were inside the establishment. So think twice about bringing the little ones if you are sensitive to that.

This restaurant makes me wonder how it got four and half stars. The dining are was rather dingy and grimy, the food was sub-par,and the service was almost unfriendly. Upon entering the establishment, we were not greeted in any way, just stared at. After we had stated our order, we were immediately ignored, and we found our way to the bar seats. The food was ready soon, and the small gray patties they called burgers were eaten quickly, and the watery chili was ignored. After paying, no body said aNy form of goodbye, aNd we hesitantly walked out. We will not be returning to this place.

I miss Powers Hamburgers. Unlike White Castle, which assembly-lines identical little burgers topped with a few small onion bits, Powers hamburgers are bigger, messier, and covered in grilled onion slices (as opposed to "bits"). Unless you want your clothes and hair to smell like grilled meat and onions all day, get them to go.

Delicious burgers in a pretty sketchy area. Comparing this to white castle is an insult. Powers is far superior--the onions beautifully caramalized, the chopped burger juicy and the bun perfect. I could eat a dozen if I wanted to, even though I shouldn't.

Still my favorite. Always fresh Didier's meat, not frozen. Great chili. Sorry White Castle & Crystal.

Tasty little burgers! And the price is right! Cash only! I'm lucky I had some cash on me. Yeah, the area is sketchy for sure... And the place is a bit dingy... But you come for the sliders! Tasty! Tasty! Tasty! Get some!!!

Love eating at small places, that are well known by the locals and... cheap! This is how you know the food's going to be great cause they don't have ambiance or charm going for them. And thank you Ms. Waitress for asking me how much I like onions... cause ya'll pile 'em on. So thanks for the heads up.
